Oversight and Investigations

The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is a specialized division of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which holds the primary responsibility for overseeing the entire U.S. Intelligence Community. This subcommittee focuses on a narrower but critical mandate: examining intelligence agency operations for waste, fraud, and abuse while handling investigative matters referred by the full committee's leadership. The subcommittee also receives and reviews whistleblower complaints concerning the Intelligence Community. Led by Chair Ronny Jackson (R-TX) and Ranking Member Joaquin Castro (D-TX), the subcommittee operates as a watchdog function within the broader intelligence oversight structure. While the full Intelligence Committee supervises major agencies including the CIA, FBI, NSA, and numerous other intelligence entities, this subcommittee provides focused accountability and investigative capacity. The subcommittee's work helps ensure that intelligence operations remain transparent and that taxpayer resources are used appropriately, though only the full committee can formally report legislation to the House floor.
