Background
Pete Aguilar was born on June 19, 1979. He began his career in public service in 2001, when he was appointed by the Governor of California as deputy director of the Inland Empire Regional Office, later serving as its interim director. Before his election to Congress, he also served as the president of the Inland Empire Division of the League of California Cities.
Political career
Pete Aguilar began his public service career in 2001 as a deputy director in the Inland Empire Regional Office under Governor Gray Davis before serving on the Redlands City Council from 2006 to 2014, including two terms as mayor. He was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, originally representing California's 31st congressional district before it was renumbered to the 33rd district following the 2020 redistricting cycle. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as the chair of the House Democratic Caucus since 2023.
