About
Yassamin Ansari is a Democratic Representative from Arizona's 3rd District and a climate policy advocate who was the first Iranian American elected to public office in Arizona.
Background
Born on April 7, 1992, Yassamin Ansari earned a master's degree in international relations and politics from St. John's College, Cambridge, as a Gates Cambridge Scholar. Before entering public office, she served as a senior policy advisor to United Nations Secretaries-General Ban Ki-moon and António Guterres, where she worked on the Paris Agreement. She also established herself as a climate policy advocate by helping to plan several international summits, including the first U.N. Youth Climate Summit.
Political career
Before her election to Congress, Yassamin Ansari served as a senior policy advisor to United Nations Secretaries-General Ban Ki-moon and António Guterres, focusing on climate action and the Paris Agreement. She later served on the Phoenix City Council from 2021 until her resignation in 2024, where she was the youngest person ever elected to the council and the first Iranian American elected to public office in Arizona. A Democrat, she was first sworn in to represent Arizona's 3rd congressional district in 2025.

They also serve on the Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation and the Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs.
