Background
Born on May 8, 1951, Vern Buchanan served in the Air Force National Guard before beginning a business career that spanned over 30 years. He co-founded American Speedy Printing, which expanded to hundreds of locations, and later built an automotive empire consisting of several car dealerships. Additionally, he held leadership roles as the chair of both the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
Political career
Before entering public office, Vern Buchanan spent over 30 years in business and served as the chairman of both the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. A member of the Republican Party, he was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007, initially representing Florida's 13th congressional district. He began representing the 16th congressional district in 2013 following redistricting and has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2026.
