Beatty, Joyce

Joyce Beatty represents Ohio's 3rd congressional district, which includes Columbus, and serves as the ranking member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions. As ranking member of the minority party, she leads Democratic opposition and scrutiny within this subcommittee, which oversees financial regulations related to national security threats, money laundering, and international financial institutions. This position gives her significant influence over investigations, hearing agendas, and the legislative direction of financial oversight in these critical areas.

Beatty brings substantial experience in public health, community engagement, and legislative leadership to her role. Before entering Congress in 2013, she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008, including time as minority leader, and held the position of senior vice president for outreach and engagement at Ohio State University. She earned degrees in speech and counseling psychology and has worked as a health administrator. She also chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 2021 to 2023, demonstrating her standing among House Democrats.

As ranking member, Beatty has focused on financial services oversight and has sponsored legislation addressing national security concerns, including bills related to the Defense Production Act. Her committee work centers on ensuring financial institutions comply with regulations designed to prevent illicit financing and protect national security.
