Background
Born in Los Angeles and raised in La Palma, California, Ami Bera earned both his bachelor's degree in biological sciences and his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. Before entering politics, he had an extensive career in medicine, serving as the chief medical officer for Sacramento County and as the medical director of Care Management at Mercy Healthcare. He also worked in academia as an associate dean and clinical professor at the UC Davis School of Medicine.
