Background
Jack Bergman was born on February 2, 1947, and began his military career in 1969 after graduating from college. He served as a naval aviator in the United States Marine Corps, flying both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft during assignments that included service in the Vietnam War. Over a long military career, he rose to the rank of lieutenant general and held several high-level leadership positions, including commanding the Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North before retiring in 2009.

Jack Bergman entered politics after a long military career, having served as a lieutenant general in the United States Marine Corps and as commanding general of the Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North. A member of the Republican Party, he was first sworn in to represent Michigan's 1st congressional district in 2017. He has continued to serve in the House of Representatives since that time.
