About
Ed Case has represented Hawaii's 1st congressional district, which encompasses urban Honolulu, since 2019. Born in Hilo in 1952, Case earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Williams College and his law degree from UC Hastings College of Law. Before his current tenure in Congress, he worked as an attorney at the Honolulu-based law firm Carlsmith Ball for nearly two decades, eventually becoming managing partner. Case previously served in the U.S. House from 2002 to 2007, representing Hawaii's 2nd district after winning a special election to fill the seat of Patsy Mink.
Case also served as majority leader of the Hawaii State Legislature and ran for statewide office multiple times, including unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Senate in 2006 and 2012. After stepping back from electoral politics in 2013 to work in the private sector, he returned to Congress in 2019 following a successful primary and general election campaign.
In the House, Case serves on the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Homeland Security, and the Defense Subcommittee. His legislative work has focused on issues affecting Hawaii, including the Hawai'i National Cemetery Act and the PROSPER in the Pacific Act, along with broader matters of national interest.
