Gerald E. Connolly (D-VA)

Gerald E. Connolly was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving Virginia’s 11th congressional district from 2009 until his death in May 2025. Born in 1950, he established a long career in public service, beginning with a decade of work for the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations where he managed oversight of international economic and Middle East policies. Prior to his election to Congress, he spent fourteen years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including five years as Chairman, where he managed significant regional budgets and transportation commissions. During his tenure in the House, Connolly sponsored 91 bills, with a legislative focus that emphasized the efficiency of the federal workforce and the protection of civil servants. Following a diagnosis of esophageal cancer, his final legislative efforts included the Gerald E. Connolly Esophageal Cancer Awareness Act of 2025 and measures honoring public servants killed in the line of duty. He was a prominent advocate for the Northern Virginia suburbs and the federal employees who reside there until he passed away while in office.
