Background

Katherine Clark was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and earned degrees from St. Lawrence University, Cornell Law School, and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Her early legal career included working as an attorney in Chicago and serving as a law clerk for a federal judge in Colorado. After moving to Massachusetts in 1995, she served as general counsel for the state Office of Child Care Services and later chaired the Melrose School Committee.

Political career

Katherine Clark began her career in public service on the Melrose School Committee before serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2008 to 2011 and the Massachusetts Senate from 2011 to 2013. She entered federal office after winning a 2013 special election to represent Massachusetts's 5th congressional district and is currently serving in her seventh term.
