Danny K. Davis is a Democratic Representative from Illinois's 7th district who has served in Congress since 1997 and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Background
Danny K. Davis was born in Parkdale, Arkansas, and earned a bachelor's degree in history from Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College, followed by a master's degree from Chicago State University and a Ph.D. in public administration from Union Institute & University. Before entering public office, he worked as a government clerk, a high school teacher, and held leadership roles at several community health and conservation organizations. His early career also included serving on the Chicago City Council and the Cook County Board of Commissioners.
Political career
Before entering federal office, Danny K. Davis served on the Chicago City Council from 1979 to 1990 and on the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1990 to 1996. He was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 1997 and has represented Illinois's 7th congressional district for over twenty-five years. A member of the Democratic Party and the Congressional Black Caucus, Davis announced in 2025 that he would not seek reelection to Congress in 2026.
