Danny K. Davis was born in Parkdale, Arkansas, and earned a bachelor's degree in history from Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College, followed by a master's degree from Chicago State University and a Ph.D. in public administration from Union Institute & University. Before entering federal office, Danny K. Davis served on the Chicago City Council from 1979 to 1990 and on the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1990 to 1996. He was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 1997 and has represented Illinois's 7th congressional district for over twenty-five years. A member of the Democratic Party and the Congressional Black Caucus, Davis announced in 2025 that he would not seek reelection to Congress in 2026.
