Diaz-Balart, Mario

Mario Diaz-Balart is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 26th congressional district, which covers northwestern Miami-Dade County and parts of the Everglades. First elected to Congress in 2002, he currently serves as the dean of Florida's congressional delegation. Born in Fort Lauderdale to a prominent political family, he studied political science at the University of South Florida and worked as a mayoral aide before entering public office. He has been a member of the Republican Party since 1985.

In the House of Representatives, Diaz-Balart is a senior member of the Committee on Appropriations. He holds a significant leadership role as the Chair of the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs. He also serves on the Subcommittee on Defense, positioning him as a key figure in shaping federal spending priorities related to national security and international affairs.
