About
Debbie Dingell has served as the U.S. Representative from Michigan's 6th congressional district since 2015. She succeeded her late husband, John Dingell, who held the distinction of being the longest-serving member of Congress in American history. Before entering Congress, Dingell worked extensively in the private and nonprofit sectors, including roles as president of the General Motors Foundation and executive director of Global Community Relations and Government Relations at GM. She is also a founder and past chair of the National Women's Health Resource Center and the Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health. Dingell holds a degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
In the House, Dingell serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she participates in subcommittees focused on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade; Communications and Technology; and Health. She also serves on the Committee on Natural Resources, including its subcommittees on Energy and Mineral Resources and Water, Wildlife and Fisheries. These assignments reflect her legislative priorities in energy policy, healthcare, environmental protection, and economic development.
Dingell has sponsored over 120 bills during her tenure, addressing diverse issues ranging from healthcare and tax policy to international relations and constituent recognition. She is active in Democratic Party leadership at the state level, having served as a member of the Democratic National Committee from Michigan and played key roles in presidential campaigns. Her background in both corporate governance and nonprofit work, combined with her family's deep roots in Michigan politics and industry, shapes her approach to legislation affecting her district and the nation.
