Debbie Dingell is a Democratic Representative from Michigan's 6th District who succeeded her husband, John Dingell, the longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history.
Background
Debbie Dingell graduated from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1975. Before entering public office, she held several leadership roles at General Motors, including serving as president of the General Motors Foundation and executive director of Global Community Relations and Government Relations. She also worked as a consultant for the American Automobile Policy Council and founded the National Women's Health Resource Center.
Political career
Before entering public office, Debbie Dingell served on the Wayne State University board of governors and held leadership roles in presidential campaigns for Al Gore and John Kerry. She was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, succeeding her late husband, John Dingell, and has represented Michigan's 6th congressional district since 2023. Although she grew up as a Republican, she changed her affiliation to the Democratic Party shortly after her marriage in 1981.
