About
Virginia Foxx is a Republican Representative from North Carolina's 5th District who has served in the House since 2005 and is the dean of her state's congressional delegation.
Background
Born in New York City, Virginia Foxx grew up in North Carolina and was the first member of her family to graduate from high school. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a master's degree and a Doctor of Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Before entering politics, she owned a nursery and landscaping business with her husband and spent several years in higher education as an instructor and as the president of Mayland Community College.
Political career
Before entering federal office, Virginia Foxx served as Deputy Secretary for Management under North Carolina Governor James G. Martin and spent ten years in the North Carolina Senate from 1994 to 2004. A member of the Republican Party, she was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2005 to represent North Carolina's 5th congressional district. She has served in the House since that time and became the dean of North Carolina's congressional delegation in January 2025.

Foxx, Virginia currently serves on the Government Operations, the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, and the House Committee on Education and Workforce.
