Gonzalez, Vicente

Vicente Gonzalez Jr. represents Texas's 34th congressional district, which stretches along the Gulf Coast from Brownsville to Corpus Christi. First elected to Congress in 2016 after Rubén Hinojosa's retirement, he initially represented the 15th district before redistricting following the 2020 census moved him to the 34th district. A native of Corpus Christi, Gonzalez earned his law degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and practiced law before entering politics. In 2022, he defeated Republican nominee Mayra Flores in his newly configured district.

Gonzalez serves on the House Committee on Financial Services, where he participates in the Capital Markets subcommittee and the National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions subcommittee. His legislative work has focused on financial regulation, housing, and election integrity, with sponsored bills including the Say No to Warrantless Searches Act, the MORE Opportunities for Homeownership Act, and the Save American Democracy Act.

Identified as a conservative Democrat, Gonzalez holds a leadership position as co-chair of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of moderate and conservative Democrats. Throughout his tenure, he has engaged in bipartisan negotiations and has voted with Republicans on select issues, including firearms and transgender-related policies, reflecting his centrist approach to governance.
