Background
Jimmy Gomez was born on November 25, 1974. Before entering electoral politics, he worked as a labor organizer, serving as a political representative for the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). He also held the role of legislative and political director for the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health-Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP).
Political career
Before his election to federal office, Jimmy Gomez served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2017 to represent California's 34th congressional district. He has continued to represent this district, which includes several Los Angeles neighborhoods such as Downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, and Koreatown.
