Garcia, Robert

Robert Garcia represents California's 42nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party, he entered Congress following a significant tenure in local government, most notably serving as the 28th Mayor of Long Beach from 2014 to 2022. During his time as mayor, he made history as the city's first openly LGBT and first Latino leader. Before his political career, Garcia founded the Long Beach Post and taught communication studies at several higher education institutions, including the University of Southern California.

In the House, Garcia holds a key leadership role as the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. He also serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he participates in subcommittees focused on Aviation and Highways and Transit. His legislative work reflects a focus on government transparency, civil rights, and public safety, having sponsored measures such as the International Human Rights Defense Act and the Stop Militarizing Our Streets Act. Since joining Congress, he has also gained national attention for his role in high-profile ethics investigations.
