Horsford, Steven

Steven Horsford represents Nevada's 4th congressional district in the House, serving since 2019 after previously holding the seat from 2013 to 2015. He is the first African American to represent Nevada in Congress. Before returning to the House, Horsford spent time in the private sector, including work at R&R Partners, an international Las Vegas-based consulting firm, and served as CEO of the Culinary Training Academy. His earlier political career included eight years in the Nevada State Senate, where he made history as the first African American Majority Leader.

In Congress, Horsford serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means, with specific focus on health and social security matters. His legislative work reflects priorities around labor standards, tariff relief, and military support. He has sponsored numerous bills addressing these areas, including measures to adjust minimum wage for tipped workers and provide tax relief for military personnel.

Horsford has also held significant leadership roles within the Democratic caucus. He served as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2023 to 2025, reflecting his prominence among Democratic members. His path back to Congress included a notable rematch victory in 2018 against the Republican who had defeated him four years earlier.
