Steven Horsford is a Democratic Representative from Nevada's 4th District and was the first African American to represent Nevada in Congress.
Background
Steven Horsford was born on April 29, 1973. Before entering politics, he served as the CEO of the Culinary Training Academy, a job training program, and was a member of the Southern Nevada Workforce Investment Board. He also worked for R&R Partners, an international business and marketing consulting firm based in Las Vegas.
Political career
Steven Horsford began his political career in the Nevada Senate, where he represented the 4th district from 2005 to 2013 and served as the first African American Majority Leader. He was first sworn in as the U.S. representative for Nevada's 4th congressional district in 2013, serving one term before returning to the private sector after the 2014 election. In 2019, he returned to the House of Representatives after winning a rematch for his former seat and has served as the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
