About
Ashley Hinson represents Iowa's 2nd congressional district, which encompasses much of northeastern Iowa including Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Dubuque. First elected to Congress in 2020, she previously served as an Iowa state representative for the 67th district from 2017 to 2021, becoming the first woman to represent that district. She and fellow Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks are the first Republican women to represent Iowa in the U.S. House. Before entering politics, Hinson worked as a broadcast journalist, beginning her career as a news anchor at KCRG-TV in Des Moines in 2005 after earning a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern California.
In Congress, Hinson serves on several committees including the House Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Homeland Security, the Committee on Financial Services and General Government, and the House Committee on Ethics. She also participates in the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. Her legislative work has focused on issues including healthcare access, child care support, and government accountability, with over 50 bills sponsored during her tenure.
Looking ahead, Hinson is a candidate in the 2026 U.S. Senate election in Iowa, seeking to replace retiring Republican Senator Joni Ernst.
