Hinson, Ashley

Ashley Hinson represents Iowa's 2nd congressional district, which includes Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Dubuque. First elected to the House in 2020, she previously served as a state representative in the Iowa House from 2017 to 2021. Before entering public service, Hinson had a long career in broadcast journalism, working as an anchor for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids and as a news editor and camera operator in Des Moines. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California.

In Congress, Hinson holds several influential committee assignments, including the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Ethics. She also serves on the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party and the Committee on Homeland Security. Her work on the Appropriations Committee involves oversight of funding for agriculture, rural development, and financial services.

Her legislative priorities often center on healthcare access and national security. She has sponsored legislation such as the Supporting Healthy Pregnancy Act and the Allowing Greater Access to Safe and Effective Contraception Act. Additionally, she has introduced the Securing American Agriculture Act to protect domestic food supplies. Hinson has announced her intention to run for the United States Senate in 2026.
