Background

Born on January 30, 1972, Mike Johnson graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University. Before entering politics, he worked as a constitutional lawyer for the Alliance Defending Freedom and later founded the nonprofit law firm Freedom Guard. He also served on the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and was named the founding dean of the Pressler School of Law.

Political career

Mike Johnson began his political career in the Louisiana House of Representatives, where he served from 2015 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected to represent Louisiana's 4th congressional district in 2016 and has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017. Now in his fifth term, Johnson was elected as the 56th speaker of the House in October 2023 and was reelected to that position in 2025.
