Marcy Kaptur is a Democratic Representative from Ohio's 9th District and the longest-serving woman in congressional history.
Background
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Marcy Kaptur earned a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan. She began her career as an urban planner for the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commissions and later served as the director of planning for the National Center for Urban Ethnic Affairs. Before her election to Congress, she also worked as a domestic policy advisor on urban affairs during the Carter administration.
Political career
Before her election to Congress, Marcy Kaptur worked as an urban planner in Toledo and served as a domestic policy advisor on urban affairs during the Carter administration. A member of the Democratic Party, she was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 1983 to represent Ohio's 9th congressional district. She has served as the dean of Ohio's congressional delegation since 2009 and is the longest-serving woman in congressional history.

Kaptur, Marcy represents the 9th congressional district of OH in the U.S. House. Kaptur, Marcy is the ranking member of the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies. They also serve on the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies and the Defense. They have sponsored 152 bills in the current House, including H.R. 8219; H.Res. 1082; H.R. 6198.
