Background

William R. Keating was born in Norwood, Massachusetts, and raised in Sharon, where he graduated from Sharon High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration from Boston College before receiving his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 1985. Before his election to Congress, he practiced law as a partner at the firm Keating & Fishman and served as the district attorney for Norfolk County.

Political career

William R. Keating began his political career in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1977 and later served in the Massachusetts Senate from 1985 to 1999, where he chaired several committees. He then served three terms as the district attorney of Norfolk County before being elected to federal office. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2011 to represent the 10th district and has served the 9th district since 2013 following a redistricting process.
