Background
Raja Krishnamoorthi was born in New Delhi, India, and raised in Peoria, Illinois. After graduating from Harvard, he served as a law clerk for a federal judge and worked as a special assistant attorney general in Illinois, where he helped establish the state's anti-corruption unit. Before his election to Congress, he served as the deputy state treasurer for Illinois and was the president of high-tech small businesses in the Chicago area.
Political career
Before entering federal office, Raja Krishnamoorthi served as a special assistant attorney general in Illinois and as the deputy state treasurer from 2007 to 2009. He also held roles as an issues director for Barack Obama’s 2004 U.S. Senate campaign and as vice-chairman of the Illinois Innovation Council. He has served as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 8th congressional district since 2017, having been first elected to the House in 2016.
