Teresa Leger Fernández returned to New Mexico after graduating from law school to work as an attorney specializing in tribal advocacy and community-building. She operated Leger Law and Strategy, LLC in Santa Fe for 30 years, focusing on civil rights and social justice. Her professional experience also includes serving as a White House fellow during the Clinton administration and working on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation during the Obama administration.
Political career
Before her election to Congress, Teresa Leger Fernandez served as a White House fellow during the Clinton administration and later held a position on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation under the Obama administration. An attorney specializing in tribal advocacy and community development, she also led the 2017 effort to implement ranked-choice voting in Santa Fe. She has represented New Mexico's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since being sworn in in 2021.
