Moulton, Seth

Seth Moulton is a Marine Corps combat veteran and Democrat representing Massachusetts's 6th congressional district since 2015. As Ranking Member of the Strategic Forces subcommittee on the House Armed Services Committee, he leads the Democratic opposition on issues involving nuclear weapons, strategic deterrence, and military technology development. The Strategic Forces subcommittee oversees some of Congress's most consequential national security work, including oversight of nuclear forces, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and emerging threats like hypersonic weapons.

Moulton brings deep military expertise to this role. After graduating from Harvard College in 2001 with a degree in physics, he joined the Marine Corps and served four combat tours in Iraq, including as an infantry platoon leader in the first Marine company to enter Baghdad. He was an outspoken critic of the Iraq War despite serving four tours, driven by a conviction that he could not let others go in his place. After leaving the Marines in 2008, he earned dual master's degrees in business and public administration from Harvard.

As Ranking Member, Moulton has held the Pentagon accountable on major defense spending decisions. He has questioned the rationale behind multibillion-dollar weapons programs, including hypersonic missile development, and raised concerns about the Pentagon's strategic thinking on nuclear deterrence in an era of multiple nuclear-armed adversaries. He has also led Democratic efforts demanding transparency from the Trump administration on military operations, including demanding open congressional hearings on military action against Iran.

Beyond his Armed Services work, Moulton has established a record of legislative achievement and constituent service. He founded Serve America, a political action committee dedicated to recruiting veterans and service-driven leaders to run for office, which has helped elect over two dozen candidates to Congress. He has earned multiple Democracy Awards from the Congressional Management Foundation for transparency and constituent services, and has championed legislation on veterans' healthcare, mental health services, and infrastructure. He also serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Select Committee on Strategic Competition with China.
