Mariannette Miller-Meeks is a Republican representative from Iowa's 1st Congressional District who has served in the U.S. House since 2021. As chair of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Health, she leads one of Congress's key oversight bodies for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The subcommittee is responsible for recommending legislation on veterans' benefits and monitoring VA operations to ensure the agency administers laws as Congress intended. Her role gives her significant power to schedule hearings, advance legislation, and investigate veterans' healthcare issues.

Miller-Meeks brings substantial expertise to this position. She is a physician who specialized in ophthalmology and served 24 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Before entering Congress, she served as director of the Iowa Department of Public Health from 2010 to 2013 and was the first female president of the Iowa Medical Society.
