McDowell, Addison P.

Addison Parker McDowell was born January 21, 1994, in Whiteville, North Carolina, and was raised in Davidson County. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Before entering Congress, McDowell worked on Capitol Hill as a constituent liaison for Congressman Ted Budd, who is now a U.S. Senator, and later served on the staff of Congressman Richard Hudson. He was first elected to the House in November 2024 and took office on January 3, 2025, representing North Carolina's 6th Congressional District.

McDowell serves on three major committees: Transportation and Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and the Budget Committee. Within the Natural Resources Committee, he holds positions on the Water, Wildlife and Fisheries subcommittee and the Indian and Insular Affairs subcommittee. He also serves on the Aviation and Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation subcommittees under Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as the Highways and Transit subcommittee.

McDowell's legislative priorities center on addressing the drug crisis and border security. This focus is deeply personal—his younger brother Luke died from a fentanyl overdose. Among his sponsored bills are the MTS CYBER Act of 2026, the PRESS Act, the Protecting Children from Foreign Mutilation Act, and Kidd's Stuttering Act. He also introduced a resolution recognizing the 245th anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, a significant historical event in his district.

Since taking office, McDowell has maintained a strong voting record, missing only 5 of 470 roll call votes through March 2026, which is better than the median attendance rate among current House members. He is running for re-election in 2026 and has positioned himself as a strong advocate for his constituents' needs in areas including infrastructure, natural resources management, and fiscal responsibility.
