McDowell, Addison P.

Addison P. McDowell is a Republican Representative from North Carolina's 6th Congressional District, which includes parts of Davidson, Davie, Rowan, Cabarrus, Forsyth, and Guilford counties. He first entered Congress in January 2025 after winning the 2024 election. Raised in Lexington, North Carolina, McDowell graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2016. Before his election to the House, he worked as a constituent liaison for then-Representative Ted Budd and as a lobbyist for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.

In the House, McDowell serves on several key committees, including the Committee on the Budget, the Committee on Natural Resources, and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. His subcommittee assignments involve oversight of aviation, highways, and maritime transportation, as well as water and wildlife management. His legislative priorities are heavily influenced by personal experience; he has cited the loss of his brother to a fentanyl overdose as a primary motivation for his focus on border security and combating the drug crisis.

McDowell has sponsored legislation addressing a variety of issues, such as the MTS CYBER Act of 2026 and the Protecting Children from Foreign Mutilation Act. He also introduced the Kidd’s Stuttering Act and a resolution recognizing the 245th anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Throughout his early tenure, he has aligned himself with the America First agenda, emphasizing economic protectionism and the defense of constitutional rights.
