Pocan, Mark

Mark Pocan is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Wisconsin's 2nd Congressional District, which is centered in Madison. He has served in the House since 2013, following 14 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Before his political career, Pocan was a small business owner who ran a union printing company for 37 years. He earned a journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986.

In Congress, Pocan serves on the House Appropriations Committee, where he sits on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee and the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee. He holds significant leadership roles as co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, co-chair of the Labor Caucus, and chair emeritus of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. His legislative priorities reflect his progressive values, focusing on issues including healthcare reform, workers' rights, and defense spending reduction.

Pocan has sponsored notable legislation including the Save Medicare Act, which targets deceptive practices by private insurers; the PrEP Access Act, addressing HIV prevention medication access; the Audit the Pentagon Act of 2026; and resolutions supporting HIV/AIDS awareness and World AIDS Day. Throughout his tenure, he has been a vocal advocate for raising the minimum wage, protecting voting rights, and closing tax loopholes that benefit large corporations. His work demonstrates a consistent commitment to economic justice and support for working families in south central Wisconsin.
