About
Stacey Plaskett has represented the U.S. Virgin Islands at-large district in the House of Representatives since 2015, currently in her sixth term. Born in Brooklyn in 1966 to parents from Saint Croix, she earned her undergraduate degree in history and diplomacy from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and her law degree from American University. Before entering Congress, she built a career in law spanning New York, Washington D.C., and the Virgin Islands, serving as an assistant district attorney in the Bronx, counsel to the House Ethics Committee, Justice Department official, and general counsel for the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority.
As a non-voting delegate, Plaskett can vote in committee but not on the House floor. She currently serves on the House Committee on the Budget, House Committee on Ways and Means (including its Tax and Social Security subcommittees), and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (including its Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture and National Intelligence Enterprise subcommittees). She has emerged as a prominent voice for territorial representation and economic development, sponsoring legislation including the Territories Health Equity Act of 2025, Farm to School Act of 2025, and measures addressing commercial driver's licenses and Haitian prosperity.
Plaskett has taken on significant leadership roles within the Democratic caucus. In 2021, Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed her as one of nine impeachment managers prosecuting President Trump for incitement of the January 6 insurrection. She serves as a co-chair of the Congressional Caribbean Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and New Democrat Coalition. She is also a founder and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation, making her the first member of a territory to hold such prominent committee positions.
