About
Brittany Pettersen is a Democrat representing Colorado's 7th Congressional District, which encompasses Jefferson, Broomfield, Lake, Park, Teller, Chaffee, Fremont, and Custer counties. She has served in the House since January 2023 and is the first woman to represent this district. Born and raised in Jefferson County, Pettersen became the first in her family to graduate from high school and college, earning her degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver while working as a server. Before entering Congress, she served a decade in the Colorado state legislature, where she advanced legislation on health care costs, the opioid epidemic, reproductive health, and child care.
In Congress, Pettersen serves on the House Committee on Financial Services, where she holds positions on the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance and serves as Vice Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions. She is also a member of the New Democrat Coalition. Her legislative work centers on addiction treatment and drug trafficking prevention, issues rooted in her mother's struggles with substance use disorder. She has championed bipartisan legislation to prevent the financing of illegal synthetic drugs, which passed the House in 2023.
Pettersen has introduced numerous bills reflecting her policy priorities, including the Rural Water Security Act, the Post-Disaster Reforestation and Restoration Act of 2025, and the Community Risk Training and Response Act of 2026. She has also been active in securing federal funding for her district, including nearly $14 million for community projects ranging from affordable housing to water infrastructure improvements. Additionally, she serves on the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force, the Problem Solvers Caucus, and the Bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. She was reelected in 2024 with 55.3% of the vote and is a member of several bipartisan working groups focused on practical solutions to pressing challenges facing her constituents.
