Raskin, Jamie

Jamie Raskin represents Maryland's 8th Congressional District, which includes much of Montgomery County. First elected to the House in 2016, he previously served three terms in the Maryland State Senate, where he rose to the position of Majority Whip. Before entering politics, he spent over 25 years as a professor of constitutional law at American University’s Washington College of Law. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

In the House, Raskin serves as the Ranking Member of the Committee on the Judiciary. His legislative work frequently centers on constitutional integrity, voting rights, and government accountability. He has sponsored various measures including the 9-8-8 Connect Act and the STOP Corrupt Bets Act of 2026. He gained national prominence as the lead impeachment manager during the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump and as a member of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

Beyond his committee work, Raskin holds several leadership roles, including serving as a Senior Whip for the House Democratic Caucus and as a Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He is also a co-founder of the Congressional Freethought Caucus. Throughout his tenure, he has remained a vocal advocate for civil rights and democratic reforms, drawing on his extensive legal background to influence policy on judicial ethics and electoral systems.
