About
Linda T. Sánchez has represented California in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2003. Currently serving the 38th Congressional District, she previously represented the 39th district before redistricting. Born in Orange, California, to Mexican immigrant parents, she earned her law degree from UCLA and built a career as a labor attorney. Before entering public office, she served as the executive director of the Orange County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, and was the first woman from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) elected to Congress.
As a senior member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, Sánchez holds a influential role in shaping national policy on taxes, trade, and Social Security. She currently serves as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Trade and is a member of the Health Subcommittee. Her legislative priorities often center on protecting working families, including sponsoring the Trade Adjustment Assistance Modernization Act and various measures to provide tax credits for caregivers and improve hospital integrity under the Social Security Act.
Sánchez has achieved several historic milestones during her tenure. She and her sister, Loretta Sánchez, were the first pair of sisters to serve simultaneously in the history of Congress. Additionally, she was the first Latina to serve on the Ways and Means and Judiciary Committees. Her leadership experience includes serving as the Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, where she advocated for immigration reform and economic opportunities for minority communities.
