Thompson, Mike

Mike Thompson represents California's 4th Congressional District, covering parts of Napa, Sonoma, and Lake counties. First elected to the House in 1998, he previously served in the California State Senate, where he was the first Vietnam veteran elected to that body. A combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Thompson served as a staff sergeant in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Before his political career, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at a winery and taught public administration at California State University, Chico.

In Congress, Thompson is a senior member of the influential House Committee on Ways and Means, where he serves as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Tax and a member of the Health Subcommittee. His legislative focus includes fiscal policy, healthcare access, and environmental conservation. He is a prominent advocate for gun violence prevention, serving as the Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. Additionally, he co-founded the bipartisan Congressional Wine Caucus and has held leadership roles in the Blue Dog Coalition and the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus.
