About
Claudia Tenney represents New York's 24th Congressional District, a sprawling region spanning 14 counties across Central New York, the Finger Lakes, and Western New York. First elected to Congress in 2016 representing the 22nd District, she served from 2017 to 2019, lost her reelection bid in 2018, and returned to Congress in 2021 after a closely contested recount. She has represented the 24th District since 2023. Before her congressional career, Tenney served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2016, becoming the first woman to represent her district.
Tenney brings significant professional experience to her role. She is an accomplished attorney with degrees from Colgate University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She co-owned Mid-York Press, a commercial printing company started by her family in 1946, and maintained a private law practice. Early in her career, she worked at the Consulate General of Yugoslavia and has remained active in her community, particularly with the Bosnian refugee population in the Utica area.
In the House, Tenney serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Her legislative focus reflects her district's economic priorities and her policy interests. She has sponsored bills including the Healthcare is Human Act of 2026 and the Essential Caregivers Act of 2025. She founded and chairs the Election Integrity Caucus, the largest caucus in Congress dedicated to election security.
Tenney's voting record reflects conservative priorities. She has consistently opposed tax increases and sponsored legislation to eliminate the state income tax while in the Assembly. She is a strong advocate for the Second Amendment and was the first to sponsor a bill to fully repeal New York's SAFE Act. Her district encompasses significant agricultural production, including major dairy and apple farming operations, as well as three nuclear power plants that contribute substantially to New York's economy.
