Ulysses S. Grant Bicentennial Recognition Act

This joint resolution authorizes the President to posthumously promote Ulysses S. Grant to the rank of General of the Armies of the United States, the highest possible grade in the U.S. Army. The promotion was intended to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Grant’s birth on April 27, 2022, in recognition of his military leadership during the Civil War and his subsequent service as the 18th President. While this measure is a symbolic honor rather than a policy change affecting modern government operations, it serves to formally elevate Grant’s historical standing to match that of George Washington and John J. Pershing.
