Northeastern North Carolina Heritage Area Study Act of 2005

H.R. 1087, the Northeastern North Carolina Heritage Area Study Act of 2005, would have directed the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine if 16 counties in northeastern North Carolina should be designated as a National Heritage Area. This study would have evaluated whether the region possesses unique natural, cultural, and historic resources that are of national importance. If the area had been deemed suitable and later designated, the bill could have paved the way for federal technical assistance and funding to support local efforts in historic preservation, tourism, and economic development across the region.
