State and Local Predatory Towing Enforcement Act

H.R. 1173, the State and Local Predatory Towing Enforcement Act, would grant state and local governments broader authority to regulate tow truck companies that remove vehicles from private or public property without the owner’s consent. Under current federal law, local governments are generally limited to regulating only the prices charged for these "non-consensual" tows. This bill would expand that power, allowing states and cities to implement and enforce stricter safety standards and operational rules to protect drivers from aggressive or predatory towing practices.
