GATE Act

The Greater Access to E-Governance Act (GATE Act) would provide federal grants to state and local governments to install high-speed broadband networks in public schools and libraries. These funds are intended to help citizens access and complete government transactions electronically, such as filing forms or accessing public services, at convenient local hubs. Under this bill, the Department of Commerce would oversee the distribution of funds to help these institutions purchase necessary hardware, software, and infrastructure to support secure and reliable public internet access.
