HELPER Act of 2023

The HELPER Act of 2023 aims to make homeownership more affordable for full-time law enforcement officers, K-12 teachers, firefighters, and other first responders. If passed, the bill would create a new federal mortgage insurance program allowing these professionals to purchase their first home with no down payment and no monthly mortgage insurance premiums. Instead of the traditional costs associated with low-down-payment loans, eligible borrowers would pay a one-time upfront insurance fee, significantly reducing the initial cash needed to buy a primary residence.
