Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act

H.R. 3267, the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act, would allow domestic partners of federal employees to receive the same government benefits currently provided to spouses, such as health insurance, life insurance, and retirement benefits. To qualify, partners would need to file an affidavit certifying their relationship and would be subject to the same legal obligations and anti-fraud standards as married couples. Additionally, the bill would update the tax code to ensure that employer-provided health coverage for these domestic partners is treated as a tax-exempt benefit.
