Compassionate Visitor Visa Act

The Compassionate Visitor Visa Act would make it easier for foreign nationals to obtain a temporary visa to visit the United States during a family emergency. Specifically, it would lower the legal hurdles for individuals seeking to visit a U.S. citizen or permanent resident relative who is seriously ill or has passed away.

Under current law, applicants must proactively prove they do not intend to stay in the U.S. permanently before a visa is granted; this bill would remove that initial burden of proof for those facing a family crisis. For citizens and legal residents, this change is intended to reduce administrative delays and visa denials, allowing their international family members to provide support or attend funeral services more quickly.
