Every Drop Counts Act

The Every Drop Counts Act would expand the Bureau of Reclamation's Small Storage Program, which provides grants to support water storage projects in certain western states. If enacted, the bill would broaden which projects qualify for funding by making projects eligible if they store between 200 and 150,000 acre-feet of water annually and help increase or stabilize groundwater aquifer levels.

The bill would also extend the federal government's authority to operate this grant program for an additional five years beyond its current authorization. For citizens in western states, this could mean increased federal support for local water storage initiatives designed to address water availability and groundwater management challenges. The bill is currently under committee consideration and has not yet been voted on by the full House.
