TLDR Act

The Terms-of-service Labeling, Design, and Readability (TLDR) Act would require commercial websites and mobile apps to provide a concise, easy-to-read summary of their terms of service. These "nutrition label-style" summaries must be placed at the top of existing agreements and include clear information on how user data is collected, whether it can be deleted, and any legal rights or liabilities the user is accepting.

For everyday citizens, this bill aims to eliminate the need to read through pages of complex legal jargon before clicking "I agree" to use a service. By standardizing these summaries, the legislation would make it easier for consumers to compare privacy protections across different platforms and understand exactly what happens to their personal information. While the bill applies to most online entities, it includes an exemption for small businesses.
