To amend title 49, United States Code, to provide that individuals who are eligible to join the Armed Forces of the United States are also eligible to be security screening personnel.

H.R. 4849 would change the eligibility requirements for airport security screening personnel by removing the strict requirement that they be United States citizens. Under this bill, any individual who meets the legal requirements to join the U.S. Armed Forces would also be eligible to work as a security screener. This change would expand the pool of potential applicants for these positions to include certain non-citizens, such as legal permanent residents, who are currently permitted to serve in the military.
