Secure America Port Accountability Act of 2006

H.R. 4978, the Secure America Port Accountability Act of 2006, would require a comprehensive federal investigation into the security and management of United States seaports. The bill directs the Government Accountability Office to evaluate the extent of foreign involvement in port operations and review all port management contracts signed since 2001 to identify potential national security vulnerabilities. Additionally, the study would specifically assess the safety of the ten largest U.S. ports regarding cargo shipping, passenger security, and the risk of unauthorized infiltration.
