Fine Arts Protection Act of 2025

The Fine Arts Protection Act of 2025 would direct the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a comprehensive review of the General Services Administration's (GSA) Fine Arts Program. This program manages one of the oldest and largest public art collections in the United States, including significant works from the New Deal era. The review would assess the economic value of the collection, evaluate how well the GSA is managing the program, determine whether current staffing and funding levels are adequate, and compare the GSA's practices to other similar organizations. The bill would also examine whether the GSA should continue managing the collection or if it should be relocated elsewhere. Within two years of enactment, the Comptroller General would submit a report to Congress with findings and recommendations for improving how the collection is managed and preserved. The bill recognizes the importance of art in preserving and understanding history and aims to ensure this significant cultural resource receives proper care.
