Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006

The Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006 prohibits federal employees and those acting under federal authority from seizing or restricting the possession of legally owned firearms during a major disaster or emergency. It further prevents the government from requiring new registrations for these firearms or banning individuals from carrying weapons they are already legally authorized to carry. While the bill allows for the temporary surrender of firearms as a condition for boarding rescue or evacuation transport, it grants citizens the right to sue in federal court for the return of confiscated weapons or for violations of these protections.
