Fairness for State and Local Workers Act

The Fairness for State and Local Workers Act (H.R. 5320) would expand the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) to include employees of state and local governments. Currently, federal workplace safety standards do not automatically apply to these public sector workers unless a state has opted to create its own approved safety plan. If passed, this legislation would ensure that millions of public employees—such as firefighters, teachers, and sanitation workers—receive the same federally mandated safety protections and oversight as workers in the private sector.
