SNAP E&T Enhancements Act of 2023

The SNAP E&T Enhancements Act of 2023 (H.R. 5362) aims to expand and improve the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s Employment and Training (E&T) services, which help participants gain job skills and work experience. The bill would increase federal funding for these programs and allow states more time to spend their allocated funds to ensure consistent service delivery.

For citizens, the bill would reduce barriers to employment by excluding wages earned in apprenticeship programs from counting against SNAP eligibility, preventing participants from losing food assistance while they are still in training. Additionally, it would expand the types of support services available to participants, such as reimbursements for basic necessities like utilities, and double the duration of job retention services from 90 to 180 days to help individuals stay employed long-term.
